The Best and Worst

Next weekend we'll be traveling to New York for Commissioning Weekend. My parents and my brother (and sister-in-law) will be commissioned that weekend. Whenever conversation turns to commissioning preparation and anxiety, I remember our time at the SFOT and those nauseous moments when we realized that we would be sent out as the shepherds. Anyway, in honor of commissioning weekend, our questions this week are: What is the thing you miss the MOST about the SFOT? What is the thing you miss LEAST about SFOT?

Hallmark- Where's the SA special move edition?

We get pins, figurines, pens, notebooks, photo albums, stickers, and the awful Maxine product line...but where is the special Salvation Army Appointment Edition? The front of the card has people crying on the front (you satisfied 100% of the congregation)....on the inside it says, 60% while you were here, 20 % now that you're gone...and the other 20% (that still addresses you as Commander) will think you've just been on vacation!
But really, what do we say to someone who has been given their marching orders? Congratulations seems weird....I'm sorry is even crazier! We aren't winning or losing anything, so what do you say? I guess it's more about encouragement than anything. Whether you have or haven't seen it coming...whether a requested change or a suprise...we all need encouragement. Leaving the familiar to the unfamiliar. Leaving plans and people into someone else's hands. Knowing you are coming into someone elses plans and people as well. From those of us who are still serving in our current appointments to those who are venturing on to something new...know that we are praying for you, your people (present and future), and your ministry.

WORSHIP IDEAS

We are all gifted in different areas. Is fundraising not your area of expertise? If it is, the post is still available for comment, if not this one is for you! Captain Sparks was right when he said Sunday comes every 7 days. Planning and leading a worship service [especially when it's the Captain (your name here) show] every week and not having the same predictable outline can become difficult. So, here is what we're looking for: Call to Worship ideas, Scripture presentation ideas, unique service outlines, tips for leading worship when you are it, etc.

FUNDRAISING IDEAS

World Services, Commissioning, DHQ invoices, payroll, utilities, renovations, divisional camps, social ministry...the list goes on and on! But where do we get the money to support all these expenses???? Ok, looking for creative and innovative fundraising ideas. Small or large...list them here! This will be a great resource for the session.
