Do You Ever Feel Prepared?
Ok, so here's the question posed to you today...."Do you ever feel prepared for what we face daily as Salvation Army officers?" Is there one experience in particular that stands out in your mind where you really unprepared to face it? Is there anything (be gentle and constructive) that you think should have been emphasized more at the SFOT to prepare you for this ministry?

I'm feeling ya! Not that we don't use children's programming, but a lot of stuff could have been done pre-training.
ok, so I guess my follow up is...how would this take shape at the SFOT? We know classes where tight to begin with (a lot of drive by courses--and some subjects we spent way too much time). I know we cannot change the school overnight, but how can we affect change to benefit those who we send and those who we know will be entering in the near future?
I don't think a two year or even a ten year training program can train us for some of the challanges we are called on to face as TSA Officers only the Holy spirit can do that.
I am involved in a 250 million dollar dollar building project i sighned on to be a pastor not a slum lord but God equips!
Maybe a third year would help but we would still feel lass than Ready.
I do think that a lot of stuff is hands on experience...but again, I think we can also agree that a TON of classes were overkill and overlapping.
I am glad that discussion has been opened and there is some changes happening at SFOT for the better. Talking with my brother Dave, he has given some insight to what has changed (even in the approach to the Holiness Weekend). So, on our end we need to just be certain we prepare anyone we send before with as much hands-on experience we can and be a resource for the new captains as they enter the war zone!
